Vermont Bike and Paddle Adventures

Biking the Lamoille Rail Trail and paddling down the Missisquoi River.

Activity Level: Intermediate.

In partnership with Northern Forest Canoe Trail.

Bike Packing is just like backpacking, except your sleeping bag, clothes, and tent are attached to your bike in special packs and you pedal instead of walk!. Traveling by bike allows us to move fast enough   to cover lots of  miles each day, yet slow enough to see many beautiful sights, meet new people, and stop at ice cream stands, country stores, and swim holes along the way.  This is an introductory trip on a rail trail, a trail that follows an old railroad bed. The awesome thing about the rail trails is that they are almost flat, wide, and well-surfaced, making for the best introduction to long-distance bike travel. We will bike approximately 20 miles a day before transitioning to canoes and completing the last 30 miles of the trip down the Missisquoi River to its mouth at the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, on Lake Champlain, in Swanton. While floating down the river, there will be many opportunities to observe animals, swim, fish, and play.

Participants are eligible for a Northern Explorers Scholarship.
