course conditions

For those who are coming from afar, here are the current conditions videos for the mountain and the river at 4 PM on Friday, April 12.

Current Conditions for Saturday, April 13, 2024

Most of the rain has fallen, the river is on its way down, the mountain is draining and the trails are beginning to dry. We are offering guided rafts (thanks to Kroka Expeditions) for everyone, not comfortable with canoeing or kayaking the high water. More information and sign-ups at the packet pick-up and safety talks on Saturday and Sunday. No Raft signs ups via email, phone, or text!

CURRENT CONDITIONS FOR WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2024

Three days of sun and warmer-than-seasonal temperatures did a trick. The valley floor snow has melted and the paths started to dry! The dirt roads are in very good condition for the time of year. There is light rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday with moderate rain for Thursday night and Friday morning. The predicted amounts are not expected to exceed an inch in total, which will fill the river while keeping it well within its banks.

Current conditions for Monday, April 8, 2024

A full day of strong spring sun reduced the snowpack and filled the river. The river safety team worked over the weekend on removing the strainers. With two more days of sun, the low-elevation snow will likely be all but gone and parts of the valley floor will begin drying out.  With rain in the forecast for the second half of the week, we can expect high water. We strongly advise flotations in canoes and kayaks, cold-weather paddling gear (dry suits, wet suits), closed kayaks with skirts, and canoes suitable for white water.

Current Conditions for Friday, April 5, 2024

In the past 36 hours, we were blessed with a foot of fresh snow on the valley floor and 18 inches at higher elevations. We are looking at the warming trend for Sunday and the early part of next week. Here are the three things that we know: There will be enough water for paddling, enough snow for skiing, and too much mud for off-road biking. Here is what we don’t know: The river flows will increase with the snowmelt, by how much will depend on the air temperature, sun, and rain. The snow may melt on the valley floor and trails may begin to dry out, or it may be too wet to use the footpaths.
